Your baby learns so much in their first year. They might even be saying some words by the time they are 1 year old. Here are some other milestones to look forward to:
Playing
Your baby will be able to choose books and toys that they like. They will be enjoying games and playing with toys. If you sit down to play, they will want to play too.
They might be playing at real life things, like making tea or talking on a phone.
Listening
Your little one can understand some simple words. These will be things they hear a lot during their day-to-day life. Such as 'bath time' or 'more?'
They will respond to simple questions, like ‘Where’s Mummy?’.
See if your baby gets excited when you mention things they like. You can also try looking at picture books and naming the things you see.
Speaking
Your baby may be able to use easy-to-say letters, like p, b, g, or w. They can make the key sound of a word, even if they can’t say the whole word, like ‘do-do’ for ‘dog’.
They will be babble more and will be able to use around 10 words, but they won’t always be clear.
Any concerns?
All children learn different things at different times. No two are the same. If your child is doing some of these things, but not all of them, this is normal.
If you are worried about your child's development, speak to your Health Visitor, family hub or childcare provider. They should be able to give you some simple ideas of how to support your child's development at home. Or they may suggest a visit to your GP.
