Dream up a Door activity sheets

Sharing and making up stories can help your child to escape and relax, while also supporting their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Did you know that stories can be inspired by the ordinary objects in our everyday lives? This National Storytelling Week, we're inviting families to discover the hidden stories behind doors.

Our Dream up a Door activity sheets encourage your child to design a door and imagine what exists behind it.

There are two activity sheets, aimed at children aged 4-7 and 7-14, which can be downloaded and printed.

Each bespoke resource is specially designed for its specific age group.

Activity sheet for 5-7 year olds

The 5-7 resource encourages your child to draw an imaginary door then choose from a list of words to describe the place, characters and sensations behind the door.

Activity sheet for 7-14 year olds

The 7-14 resource encourages children and young people to imagine a door and draw what exists behind it - whether it's a place, world, animal or character. They can then write a few sentences about their drawing, describing in detail what they've found behind the door.
